PLASTICS INSTITUTE AND A. ROUTSIS ASSOC. JOIN FORCES;
TOGETHER, OFFER ON-SITE TRAINING
PLUS “LEAVE-BEHINDS”

LOWELL, MA — The Plastics Institute of America, Inc. and A. Routsis Associates, Inc., -- each in their own right noted providers of plastics training and engineering support to many thousands of companies -- have joined forces to provide an optimal combination of training and educational aids.

According to the two organizations, an increasing number of companies are seeking a combination of on-site/hands-on training along with or complemented by follow-up/leave behind materials (i.e.video and/or interactive CD-Rom training programs) that can serve as both refreshers and stand-alone training for both current and new employees, respectively. Thus, each organization will offer each other products and services as part of their total package and total service programs. Both the PIA and A. Routsis Associates will continue to offer their own individualized products as well.

Dr. Aldo Crugnola, Executive Director of the PIA, notes, “This new relationship with A. Routsis Associates promises to give the plastics industry complete packages for training. To the very best of our knowledge, these new offerings do not compete with any other programs currently available. Companies who now want our on-site modules can also access the many video and interactive CD-Rom offerings from Routsis after our training is completed. Conversely, companies wanting training with videos and utilizing other electronic technology can avail themselves of PIA on-site courses.”

At the present time, the PIA, in conjunction with the Umass Lowell faculty, adjunct faculty and industry experts, offers more than two dozen specialized on-site (anywhere in the world) training programs for plastics plant personnel. These programs range from control systems and SPC to elastomers, mold design and thermoforming. National and international firms which have taken advantage of PIA on-site training have found they save nearly 50% over other, more traditional “send-employees-to-training site” methods. The current offerings are listed @ www.plasticsinstitute.org under training.

Andy Routsis, both the Founder and President of A. Routsis Associates and himself a University of Massachusetts Lowell graduate, sees the new relationship with the PIA to be a boon to the plastics industry. He comments, “While A. Routsis Associates has the benefit of many years of experience working hands-on with plastics industry personnel, the additional offering of on-site training allowing company personnel to gain experience in their own working environment adds another dimension to employee growth and retention.”

The Plastics Institute of America, now in its 4th decade, is a not-for-profit educational research group dedicated to education and research for the plastics industries. Members include large and small producers of plastics products, commodity and engineering resins, additives for plastics, plastics packaging and process machinery, as well as educators, international industry associations and trade publications.
