PLASTICS INSTITUTE OF AMERICA ADDS FIVE TO BOARD TO COMPLEMENT ACTIVITIES IN INJECTION MOLDING, TRADE ASSOCIATION LIAISON, SOFTWARE AND ECONOMICS
LOWELL, MA — The Plastics Institute of America, the 4-decade-old non-profit plastics industry educational and research organization closely tied to UMass Lowell, has elected five new industry luminaries as Members, Board of Trustees. They are:
Stephen R. Byrnes, VP, Sales & Customer Service, Synventive Molding Solutions Peabody, MA - he resides in Gloucester, MA
Betty Coleman, Assistant Director, NE Regional Operations, Society of the Plastics Industry, Weymouth, MA - she also resides with her family in Weymouth, MA.
Madorie E. Weiner, Assistant Director of the National Plastics Center & Museum in Leominster, MA - she is a resident of Brooklyn, CT.
Peter J. Rucinski, Director of Product Marketing, Moldflow Corporation in Wayland, MA - he resides with his family in Bolton, MA.
Bill Wood, Founder & Principal, Mountaintop Economics and Research, Inc. in Colrain, MA, plus economics editor of Modern Plastics and Modern Plastics International magazines - he also resides with his family in Colrain, MA.
According to the Institute's Executive Director, Dr. Aldo Crugnola and Chairman, Martin K. Pottle, “The addition of these fine and talented people round out our Board nicely, giving us professionals with skills in injection molding, two additional people from affiliate organizations, and skilled personnel from computer design software and business/economics/financial venues. Our other Members of the Board of the Board of Trustees (18 total) come from equally diverse and complementary (to plastics) positions, ranging from marketing and publishing, to extrusion, resins and compounding, manufacturing, U.S. government and defense, academic and products manufacturing. Thus, with this expertise on our board, we are fully capable of providing training and education services to all disciplines within the plastics industry in addition to being a multi-faceted resource.”
Biographical Information
Stephen R. Byrnes, a UMass Lowell (B.S. Plastics) graduate, has worked for several of the nation's leading plastics machinery manufacturers including Husky, HPM and Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering. He currently is VP Sales & Customer Service with Synventive Molding Solutions (formerly Dynisco and Kona Hot Runners) in Peabody, MA. Additionally, he is most active in plastics industry associations. He resides in Gloucester, MA with a family spread from Yuma, AZ to Marion, OH to Thomaston, ME.
Betty Coleman has been affiliated with the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) for 16 years where she currently is the Assistant Director of NE Regional Operations. While raising her three children, she is active in her church, and is president of her local sports team. She works in, and lives in, Weymouth, MA.
Marjorie Weiner, a graduate of Emmanuel College (B.A.) and Tufts University, (M.A. in Education and Museum Studies) is the Director of the National Outreach program of the National Plastics Center and Museum. She resides in Brooklyn, CT.
Peter J. Rucinski, a graduate of UMass Lowell (B.S. and M.Sc. in Plastics Engineering), is Director of Product Marketing at Moldflow Corporation, a leading supplier of software solutions for the design and manufacture of injection molded plastic parts. Prior, he was with Cyro Industries. An award winner for outstanding achievements during his career, he is active with both the SPE and the Assn. for Mfg. Excellence. He lives with his family in Bolton, MA.
Bill Wood, is a Harvard-trained economist with more than 18 years of experience in market analysis. Prior to founding Mountaintop Economics & Research, he was a senior economist with Cahners Publishing Company. He also publishes a monthly online report which identifies and forecasts trends in the plastics markets plus is the Economics Editor for both Modern Plastics and Modern Plastics International magazines as well as a much-published author in leading magazines worldwide. He lives with his family in Colrain, MA.
The Plastics Institute of America is currently one of the most active organizations anywhere, giving on-site training courses under the auspices of UMass Lowell to some of the world's leading companies. Its work through training and education is to complement, not duplicate, the work of other plastics industry groups.
